Dean of Education - Shoolman School

Through the study of religion, culture, civilization and language, Hebrew College is committed to educating students of all ages and backgrounds to become knowledgeable, creative participants, educators and leaders in the community and the larger world.  Located in Newton Centre, Massachusetts, Hebrew College currently offers BJEd, MJEd, and certificates in early childhood, special education, informal education, family education, and, with the Pardes Institute, day school education. In partnership with Northeastern University, we also offer an Ed.D. degree with a specialization in Jewish educational leadership
 
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of Education provides leadership, vision, and strategic guidance for faculty, staff, students and all aspects of the School of Education’s programs.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Lead the School of Education with vision, creativity and excellence in strategic planning, curriculum development, and standards setting
  • Lead the School of Education’s financial matters, including oversight of budgets, fundraising and stewardship of individual donors and foundations
  • Create partnerships with schools and universities and others to create new professional development opportunities for local and national Jewish educators
  • Lead the School of Education in the development of ways to optimize our web presence and to use technology to deliver professional development (e.g., webinars, resources) and courses (e.g., online, videoconferencing)
  • Contribute to the College’s overall planning and development
  • Work with faculty to design and implement curricular changes, programmatic innovation, and high academic standards
  • Create new courses and programs to ensure that the school continues to respond to the dynamic nature of Hebrew College and Jewish education
  • Oversee recruitment of students, faculty, and staff for the School of Education
  • Enhance the College’s position as an international center for preparing teachers and education leaders for the Jewish community 

Requirements:

  • PhD or EdD
  • Evidence of effective leadership in the field of education
  • Demonstrated skills in building relationships, both within the College and with external partners
  • Insight, collaborative style, and communication skills to galvanize the College in a common vision that includes support and encouragement of the goals of public higher education
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural and ethnic diversity and multicultural education
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, service and scholarly achievement sufficient for appointment to the rank of full professor

Coordinator of Marketing and Communications

Hebrew College, one of the nation’s leading providers of Jewish education, has a unique part-time position available for a Coordinator of Marketing and Communications. Located in Newton Centre, the College trains clergy and educators, and features a large high-school, on-line programs that have a global reach; adult Jewish education, Hebrew language training, and numerous degree and certificate programs.

Position Summary: Using all media, including the College website, social networks, general public relations tools, special events, and advertising, the coordinator of marketing and communications will

  • Create and implement marketing strategies and tools to expand interest in Hebrew College and enhance College brand awareness
  • Develop and coordinate strategies and their implementation with Admissions, Development and Academic Programs
  • Create clear messaging about the College’s strategic direction

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with College leadership to develop marketing strategy and with administrative and academic departments to implement marketing strategy.
  • Develop marketing plans for fund-raising & student recruitment and lead the implementation of these plans
  • Leverage social media to maximize the impact of the college website through management of content and design
  • Manage content & design of College website so that it works to implement the strategic marketing plan
  • Develop, edit, format, approve and distribute College communications instruments
  • Manage documents to ensure that format and message are consistent
  • Act as liaison between leadership and IT regarding website content & style
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Strong marketing skills & experience are key.
  • Marketing experience in an educational or non-profit environment
  • Deep understanding of marketing’s goals, functions, & integration in the institution
  • Strong communication (written and oral) and editing skills

Also important are:

  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organization and presentation skills
  • Experience with social media and knowledge of the online community & current web trends
  • Knowledge of print media
  • Proficiency with the MS office suite and general computer use
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community would be very helpful

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Experience creating or managing web site content using graphics & text
  • Flexibility, creativity, understanding of the need for confidentiality
