Ikkarim: Parenting Through a Jewish LensDesigned just for parents, Ikkarim is a 19-week inspirational journey through Jewish sources of wisdom. Participants—adults of all backgrounds—discover how ikkarim (Hebrew for “principles”) can inspire good parenting. They also learn how Judaism's sage perceptions about the human condition can inform their quest for meaning, and enrich their most important relationships. You don't have to be Jewish. You don't have to belong to a synagogue. Ikkarim is for any parent interested in learning how timeless values can strengthen their family. Offered by Hebrew College and the CJP Commission on Jewish Learning & Engagement, Ikkarim is taught by outstanding instructors who both understand the interests and concerns of parents, and are adept at facilitating meaningful discussions. These often don't end when the ninety-minute class is up. In the words of one participant, "I learn, I think, I go home and discuss with my husband. Ikkarim gives me a new lens through which to view and understand Jewish values and learning." Ikkarim is being offered at thirteen sites in Greater Boston in 2010–2011. Tuition: $250 More than 50 percent of the tuition for this 19-week program is subsidized by Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston. Ikkarim is a partnership program of Hebrew College and CJP.
